Some Details

  • Race date is 16th August 2014, however the weekend activities and carboloading activities (we’re sure you know what that means) start from the afternoon of Friday 15 August.
  • Entry packages
    • Full weekend packages with tents, food and race entry will be available.  Day entries available too.
    • Full weekend package registration will be available from Friday afternoon into the evening.
    • Line entries and day package registration from 8am to 9.30 am, Saturday morning.
    • Online entry closing date will be 31 July 2014, but some line entries will be available on the day.
  • As this is a non-commercial, unsponsored event, we won’t be pushing product down your throats, other than of course  that yummy amber life giving liquid.  That does obviously have a slight impact on entry fees, but you true single speeders already understand that vibe.  Be assured that the exchange rate will be good, meaning your entry Rands will be converted into many many units of fun. Not a word of a lie my bra.
  • Race details
    • Event theme is the ‘Sound of Music’ any music, no really, emotional moshing opera singers are SSingle SPEEDERS too. We won’t discriminate as long as you have fun with it, errr us on this one, no limits promise.  So start thinking of your rockin’ race clobber and party outfits…
    • Provide your own number boards and number in any form and format, paper, plastic, precious metals and even chicken or beef are all real options.  No pressure,  just a frame and fork for the best one.
    • Rider briefing at 9.45am, either Saturday or Sunday, depending on the bar tab.
    • Race start time 10am or whenever we decide
    • Race route will be almost exclusively mind bending orgasmic Mpumalanga single track.  Prepare yourself for around 30km give or take 30km which may or may not include beverage stations of some form or other.
    • Men’s, ladies and transgender winners will be crowned with something to be delivered by the mountain biking gods.  It will be melodic hic hic.
  • There will be a fully stocked bar as well as a DJ, so choon your mates.  Additional food will be available for purchase above and beyond the prebooked weekend and day package meals.
  • All Trails will be open for riding on Friday and Sunday too.
  • As it will still be wintertime, come prepared with warm woollies.  The days will be pleasant but the nights can get colder than an eskimo’s testicles.  Bring a chair too.  It will stop you from falling over.
  • Keep up to date with event details by liking the SSWC2012 FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/SSWC-2012-South-Africa/215345968549822?fref=t

The Format

A testy fun 30km single track route cut by the master trail builder and Singlespeed record holder of the Freedom Challenge, Glenn Harrison. There are bail-out options for the not so fit, and of course there will be the ubiquitous and strange ‘non-water points’ that will entitle you to short cut.

It is a single speed event but we will tape gears up of normal bikes, so all bikes welcome.

The trails are fast and flowing and the climbs are smooth and follow the contours of the landscape, so normal gearing should be manageable.  This riding will put the muse back into your music, the jangle back into your jingle, the bells back in your balls.

How To Get There

Watervalboven is situated on the N4 approximately 260km/235km from Johannesburg and Pretoria respectively and only 100km from Nelspruit.

Directions to Tranquilitas Adventure Farm can be found here http://www.tranquilitas.com/contact.html
